How I got here....

Before I tell you about why I have begun this blog, let me tell you a little bit about myself. I was born in Oswego, New York and raised on the Central Coast of California in the little town of Santa Maria. I spent my childhood chasing after the ice cream man on my bicycle and trying to start my very own babysitter's club in a shed in my backyard. I eventually graduated in the top of my class in high school in 2001, and not once in my professional career has anyone ever cared about that accomplishment. Had I known that I might have relaxed a little bit and not cried that one time I got an A minus in Typing class.

I led a pretty typical life, head cheerleader, sorority girl, psychology major, on the road to success. Until one night in college I met a hot guy, and since I was already 6 glasses of champagne in, my good judgment and rational thinking were no match for his charm and good looks....and a few hours later (unbeknown to us) I was pregnant. I found out that I was pregnant a few weeks later, I threw up, I told the hot guy, I cried, and then I realized I was on my own. I was going to be a single mom.

This website chronicles my life as a single mom living in San Francisco.

Which brings us back to why I began this blog. Because, yes, there are days when I am in full-on Mommy mode and don't have a second for myself, which I suspect is how many single mom's feel almost every day of their lives. There are also days where I get to sleep in until past 7a, have an adult conversation, and read a book that does not contain any pictures. Life as a single mom is like walking a tight rope, it's difficult, it's not easy to learn, and not everyone can do it. And since learning how to keep my balance, I haven't been able to imagine myself doing anything else.

If I had to fill out a questionnaire about my hobbies it would probably look like this: I love dancing in my underwear to 80's music, a good beer in a dive bar, Jameson on the rocks, really awful reality television, building sandcastles at the beach, a nice glass of wine, Jimmy Choo's, long hikes to nowhere in particular, and playing board games.
